Love, Death & Destiny


Three great operatic love affairs between TOSCA the passionate opera singer and her lover the artist MARIO CAVARADOSSI, OTELLO the Moorish warrior and hero and his bride DESDEMONA and the forbidden love of AIDA the enslaved Ethiopian princess and RADAMES leader of the Egyptian army. Their weaknesses exploited by dark forces leading to their deaths.

A script by Scottish writer Carlotta Thomson creates a compelling tale narrated by renowned Scottish Actor Jimmy Chisholm. With multi-media visuals, set and costume by Annette Gillies (designer of BAFTA Award winning TV series) and a soundscape by digital composer Tony Morris, this is a night out at the opera you won’t want to miss.

International opera singers Christina Dunwoodie and William Turner have sung extensively on the operatic stage in the UK and Europe. Their careers in concert and oratorio have taken them throughout Europe, the UK, Russia, UAE and South America. Music Director Julia Strehle-Lynch is one of the busiest accompanists in the country with a concert career that has taken her to London, Tokyo, Geneva and Germany.

Scottish Opera Youth Company returns to The Beacon following the success of Dido and Aeneas in 2017.Based on the myth of Orpheus, Orfeo & Euridice tells the tale of one man’s determination to defy the gods and rescue his lover from Hades. But can he resist temptation long enough to save her?

Composer, Gluck sought to change the nature of opera and bring to it a ‘noble simplicity’.Orfeo & Euridice remains his most popular work, largely due to the sheer beauty of its music which is full of emotion: at one moment full of fury, the next clear and pure.
