The Andrews Sisters

The Andrews Sisters were America's most successful female vocal harmony group during the 1940s. When the sisters burst upon the music scene in the late 1930s, they shook a very solid musical foundation, producing a slick harmonic blend by singing at the top of their lungs while trying—successfully—to emulate the blare of three harmonizing trumpets. Maxine, Patti and LaVerne appeared regularly on radio shows and in 17 Hollywood movies with stars such as Bing Crosby and Abbott & Costello as well as singing with most of the famous Big Bands of the era including Glenn Miller, Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey, Benny Goodman and Xavier Cugat.

Now the UK's only celebration of the Andrews Sisters backed by a full big band (the Moonlight Serenade Orchestra UK) re-creates the fabulous close harmony sound and feel of those swinging days when they headlined not only in America but also at the London Palladium with numbers such as Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy, Rum & Coca Cola and Bei Mir Bist Du Schoen along with the best loved instrumentals from the big bands such as In The Mood, Opus One, Sing, Sing, Sing and Moonlight Serenade and showcase solos from each of the Sisters.

Greenock Light Opera Club presents
Rock of Ages

It’s the tail end of the big, bad 1980s in Hollywood, and the party has been raging hard. Aqua Net, Lycra, lace and liquor flow freely at one of the Sunset Strips last legendary venues, a place where the Rock Star Stacee Jaxx takes the stage and groupies line up to turn their fantasies into reality.

Amidst the madness, aspiring rock star (and resident toilet cleaner) Drew longs to take the stage as the next big thing (and longs for small-town girl Sherri, fresh off the bus from Kansas with stars in her eyes). But the rock and roll fairy-tale is about to end when German developers sweep into town with plans to turn the fabled Strip into just another capitalist strip mall.

Can Drew, Sherri and the gang save the strip–and themselves–before it's too late? Only the music of hit bands Styx, Journey, Bon Jovi, Whitesnake and more hold the answer.

This amateur production of Rock of Ages is presented by special arrangement with Samuel French Ltd.

Our Fathers

Written by: Rob Drummond and Nicholas Bone

Directed by Nicholas Bone & Ian Cameron

Cast Rob Drummond and Nicholas Bone
Designer Karen Tennant
Lighting Simon Wilkinson
Composer Scott Twynholm

Our Fathers is a playful, personal new play threading together Edmund Gosse’s Father and Son with an exploration of faith and conflict-resolution in the 21st century. Gosse’s memoir recounts the growing gulf between Edmund and his father, an evangelical preacher and renowned scientist.

When his own clergyman father suggested he should read the book, Nicholas Bone assumed it would reveal something to him. He’s still trying to work out what it is, and fellow-clergyman’s son Rob Drummond
is trying to help him.

A first collaboration between two distinctive theatremakers; Rob Drummond’s work includes Bullet Catch, Nicholas Bone’s work with Magnetic North includes Walden.

THE LIONS OF LISBON

A Play of Two Halves by Ian Auld & Willy Maley
A rehearsed reading with live music
Adapted and Directed by Martin McCardie
Musical Director Dave Anderson

Get ready to roar for the golden anniversary of the finest silver ever lifted. If you know the history … don’t just remember it, relive it…

In May 1967, 10,000 of the greatest supporters in the world embarked on the most important crusade since the quest for the Holy Grail. They hailed from Scotland, Ireland, and every corner of the globe. Most were Celtic daft. Some were just plain daft.

The Celticade stretched from the Campsie Fells to the Pyrenees, rolling like a green carpet across Europe. Those who couldn’t afford the plane travelled on slow boats and long-distance lorries, in battered vans and buses, on rusty bikes and blistered feet, in used cars and trains that never ran on time.

The fans lived on borrowed time and borrowed money, arriving in Lisbon with a fistful of escudos and a heartful of hope. They were married to Celtic and pregnant with passion. The club was their kith and kin, their neighbour, their best friend, their ticket to immortality. They came clutching floodlit memories. They came over broken glass and stones, walking on water and living on a prayer. They came in search of paradise, and found it in Portugal.

A full cast of ten, plus live band, recreate the humour, passion and occasional calamity that accompanied a Glasgow & District XI showing Europe’s finest how the beautiful game should be played.
